One of the our friends recently built a square foot garden at their house and of course I was inspired! Little did I know how much work it ended up being for us. It was a learn by doing process and after several trips to Lowes, text messages to our friends asking a ton of questions, help from Matt's dad, and carefully mixing our soil (that was a process all by itself!), we finally built our first box! Well the box was built, but then taken apart because we thought we had the wrong dimensions. To be completely honest, our friends came over and actually built the box to show us how it is done. Ours is not technically a square foot garden since I don't have it divided out by square feet, but I'll just call it my growers box! I have lettuce, carrots, beets, several herbs, cucumber, and a jalapeno pepper thus far! I still have room for quite a bit more and Matt is working on building another box! Now, for those who know me, I can kill a cactus like that, so hopefully this will be my first success at growing something green!

A visit from Nana and Papa!
Beckett got to spend some much anticipated quality time with his Nana and Papa when they came to visit from Denver and stayed with us for a few days! We had quite a busy week with a trip to the Pike Place Market, Alki Beach, and a road trip to Bellingham. Beckett loved playing with Papa and told Nana many stories! To top off the week, we went down to Portland to celebrate Beckett's great grandma Bunny's birthday and spend time with his cousins! Here are some picture highlights...

Swaddle Me!!
Sleeping for Beckett has not been too much of an issue. I really can't complain too much. We all hear the stories of kids who wake up 6 times a night, or who wake up and won't go back to sleep etc... Since Beckett has been born, he's been good about knowing night from day and sleeping pretty well for the most part. He wakes up once in the middle of the night anywhere between 12:30am-2:30am and then again in the early morning between 4:00am-6:00am. No, he's not the amazing child who sleeps through the night, but really I can't complain because he goes right back to sleep after he eats and all is good. Piece of cake right? WRONG!!! It wasn't until recently that I found out just how easy it really ISN'T. Beckett is a swaddle baby. What's does that mean you say? We have swaddled him up like a burrito since he was born in order to keep him feeling cozy and snug. Little did we know that was going to be the sleep crutch that would eventually come back to hit us in the other leg when we least expect it! Now that Beckett is getting stronger (insert Kanye West song here), he can pretty much wiggle his way out of any swaddle. You could hog tie this kid and he'd still get himself free! (as a mom I am very proud of his accomplishments at such a young age, but as a person who is going to go back to work soon, re-swaddling all the time is NOT time efficient nor will be fun for those in his care) I now am working on weaning him from the swaddle. Little did I know how frustrating this process will be. I got a taste of it today! See for yourself!
He then decides to play around as usual. What you don't see is him trying
to bat at the camera in his crib and thinks its funny... Arg!
Started to cry after re-positioning him again for nap... Why?!
Finally after an hour of fussing and crying, he finally went to sleep...
only lasted 25 minutes however!
Day one of weaning him from the swaddle... unsuccessful! Took over an hour and finally had to pat his tummy while making shushing noise to get him to sleep.
Beckett = 1 Mommy = 0
The swaddle weaning process begins...

Nursery Complete!
For the most part the nursery was finished, but I had registered for these hanging wall letters (thank you Rhea and mom!) and finally got them hung up! It definitely finalized the look of Beckett's room and I'm very happy with the end result! His room is simple but elegant in a baby boy sort of way! :) He's now taking naps in his own bed and after Matt hangs the new blinds tonight, Beckett will be moved to his own room at night too! Hopefully I'll get more sleep!

A big little guy!
I thought maybe I should update you all on Beckett's stats! As of his last check up (2 weeks ago) he was 24 inches long (90%) and weighed 14 pounds (95%). His head was in the 75% range so all in all he's a pretty big guy! He definitely takes after his dad in height and weight when Matt was a baby. You may not have guessed this looking at Matt today, but ask his mom! He was a big guy! Beckett is enjoying his time in the sun and loves to jibber jabber a lot! He told Matt all about our walk today and all the things he saw! I'm loving the sunny weather we are having and on days like today, I love that I'm on maternity leave! I officially go back to work the beginning of August, but may try to go back part-time in July just to bring home a little bread for the family until I go back full-time. However, looking at this face... not sure if it will happen or not! He has such personality and every day it gets better and better! :)
