First Trip to the Aquarium!

Beckett has shown a great interest in fish lately. At the Dr's office he spent the entire time in the waiting room, glued to their fish tank. Then on Friday, Matt and I took him out to dinner with us and we sat near a fish tank and again, the little guy was GLUED! We decided that maybe the Aquarium would be our next weekend family outing! Here are some pictures documenting his excitement!

Rolling waves mesmerized him!

Something scared him but we never figured out what...

Taking it all in...

Salmon swimming to nowhere... all that work too!

And here ends the show! Beckett was pooped out!

Everyone has a bad day sometimes...

Beckett goes to school 2 days a week and this past Friday when I dropped him off, his teacher told me how happy and easygoing he has been. Here is the note that was left regarding his day when we picked him up...

Daddy's Number 1 Fan!

For the past couple of years Matt has played in a softball league after work with his co-workers. This year they are also playing basketball so that takes Matt out of the parent rotation 2 nights a week! As the saying goes, "if you can't beat em', join em!" So, that's what we do each week! The guys all play softball and the wives and girlfriends come to watch. Last year I got to see baby Ephraim for the first time when he was just a few months old and now this year, I'm bringing baby Beckett for the other wives to see, some for the first time! Ephraim is now 16 months old and enjoys running around cheering for his daddy... It's pretty cute! Before I know it, I'll be chasing Beckett around the bases as he cheers for his daddy during the games! Here are some pictures of Beckett enjoying the game!

Taking a little break from the action... all the excitement poops him out!

Baby Food by Mommy

Beckett started rice cereal a few days ago with great success! As you probably witnessed from the video posted earlier, he LOVED his cereal and practically jumped out of his seat for every bite. A few days later I decided I was going to give him his first taste of fruits and vegetables. What do you give your baby for their FIRST food ever?! Oh the pressure! I settled on carrots since they were not as sweet as a fruit, but one of the sweeter vegetables I could introduce. But it doesn't stop there folks! Not only was I going to introduce his first ever taste of food, I Malaika Brown was going to make it myself! Now that's love people! (not really, but working full-time and making Beckett's food seems like an ambitious feat) My mom got me a really neat Baby Beaba food cube tray made from silicone so that I can make fresh baby food and freeze in easy to remove baby food "ice cubes". Of course they are really just high priced Williams Sonoma baby ice cube trays but they do look pretty cool! :) I just got finished making some sweet potatoes and am just about to put them in the freezer. My goal is to continue to make Beckett organic homemade baby food, but honestly I do have a pantry stocked with store bought jars as a back up since I am realistic and know that working full time and keeping up with my chubby baby's appetite may be more than I can handle at times. Bon appetit!

To the zoo!

It was an August 1st day of firsts! Beckett started out his morning having his first taste of solid food... rice cereal with formula, yum! Later, we decided to take him to the zoo! We went to the Cougar Mountain Zoo in Issaquah because it was a smaller scale zoo and we thought the big zoo would be a bit much for him. Beckett got to see Llamas, Cougars, Tigers, Lemurs, Reindeers, Macaws, etc... The nice part for him and his baby vision was that the animals come right up to you because they are used to getting fed by everyone. Beckett got an up close and personal view of the llamas! However because of the zoo's small size we paid $20 dollars to perused the zoo in about 30 minutes tops! Not as much fun for us, but fun for Beckett to be able to see other "its" besides Maggie and Lucy! Here are some pictures of our day!

Beckett's First Solids

Beckett at 4 1/2 months eating rice cereal for the first time! We got the go ahead from his doctor at his 4 month check up since he was developmentally ready to handle solids! (can hold head up, grabs for everything, can sit up on his own with little assistance and shows interest in food) Here he is tasting his cereal for the first time...

I'll do it myself thank you!

Beckett's first taste of rice cereal, and mommy's taking too long! I'll just do it myself! I wonder who he takes after???
